What
is MyOnlineHealth ?
We are a new,
innovative way of keeping your personal health information
online in a highly secure environment. The service also
provides you with secure communication with your doctor
or other healthcare provider by e-mail. Eastern Maine Healthcare
and its member hospitals are providing this service in 2002,
free to consumers.
How
is MyOnlineHealth
different from how my medical records are now being kept?
MyOnlineHealth is truly
a patient-based record. Today, what patients often have
are multiple records at multiple sites (different hospitals,
doctors offices, clinics, dental offices, etc.) which all
contain similar information and possibly some information
that the other records don't contain. MyOnlineHealth allows
you to keep a secure "journal" of your own health
records over a long period of time rather than forcing you
to remember occurrences of care (like when your last tetanus
booster shot was.) Also, by allowing your healthcare providers
to view and add information directly into your personal
health record, they will likely have more information than
they previously had, which should lead to a better partnership
between you and your provider in managing your healthcare
effectively.
Accessibility
is also very different. Because MyOnlineHealth is an Internet-based
resource, your records are available to you anywhere you
have an Internet connection, any time of day, in any time-zone!
I'm
concerned about my health information being online. How
safe is it?
MyOnlineHealth will be using the highest level of security
encryption currently available. Banking institutions currently
use this same level of encryption in managing and transferring
funds around the world. For more information on our security,
