Do
I need expensive computer equipment to participate? No,
you may use your existing computer and Internet Service
Provider (i.e. MSN, AOL, etc.) Your Internet browser must
be at least version 4.x and capable of handling 128-bit
encryption.
How
will I know if my physician is participating?
Healthcare providers
are now being contacted to participate in this program.
Check with your provider's office to see if they are participating.
We will soon have a complete listing of all participating
providers/organizations. To get monthly up-to-date information,
consider subscribing to our monthly electronic newsletter.
Providers participating in MyOnlineHealth are
- Waterville: Dr. Cathie Kimball and Dr. Rich Charlebois;
Bangor: Dr. Frank Bragg, Dr. Charlie Burger; Fort Fairfield:
Dr. Dan Fowler.
Why
do you need my Internet email address if secure communications
are a part of this service? The
private communications portion of MyOnlineHealth is a completely
encrypted, secure environment in which messages are stored.
Messages here do not ever leave the safety of this secure
network. Participants actually only access their messages
by accessing this secure network with a username and password.
This is different from how we normally think of Internet
e-mail in that your secure messages don't actually get sent
from unknown server to unknown server. In addition, unlike
regular Internet email, all the private communications are
encrypted with the same technology that your personal health
record is protected with. However, having your every-day
Internet email address will allow us to notify you when
a new secure message has arrived, as opposed to forcing
you to monitor two "inboxes"; your day-to-day
email box, and your secure private communications inbox.
